MyStory 🖤 HIStory
The reason I smile is that even though my struggles are real, I know that there have been others who’ve struggled a lot more than I can imagine. My granddaddy always reminded me of how good we had it. He wanted the best for us. His descendants..
Who am I to disregard the struggles of my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents, when I was offered opportunities that they couldn’t have imagined in their wildest dreams? I lean on the memories my grandfather imparted in me. He always daid that he made it from the cotton fields to the greens of the golf courses. He wanted me to go to Ole Miss (the University of Mississippi) because he was only allowed to cut their grass. I wonder how he would have been if I actually went there. He was ecstatic when I received an acceptance letter.
I think about him walking miles to go to school and showing me the route he took to go to and from the school and mail box. He told me tales of shining the top of his feet because he didn’t have shoes. 😂 (my grand daddy joked through his struggles) I smile. What a ways we have come granddaddy.
I will never forget. I am the dream of the slave, the pride of my ancestors. I have royalty and resilience in my DNA…My granddaddy is my forever Hero and that makes me smile. I am proud of lil Meek 🥰
