Hugs

If you know me, you know I was never a hugger. I still shy away from hugs, especially from people I do not know. I am cautious of unknown energy exchanges.

As I have gone through new struggles in life, I have come to seek the thoughtful reciprocity of a good strong hug.

During really rough spells with my husband’s health, I often call my aunt and ask if she feels like company. Somehow we have established that those words are code for “please open the door with a big hug to take some of this pain away.”

I realize that the exchange of energies from a hug has been therapeutic. Hugs have become my calming factor when my feelings are muddled with distress. Hugs offer gratitude and appreciation to my friends and family for just being present. Hugs offer tranquility in a world filled with chaos.

I am not a hugger. So if you ever receive(d) a hug from me, know that I am relaxed in your presence and this is rare for me.
