A Word

A word that I didn’t understand.

A word that I have never used before.

A Word that packed so much power in its punch.

SEPSIS

I had to look it up.

I had to know what it meant.

I had to know if it was beatable.

I FEEL LIKE I AM DYING

The words that he spoke to me.

The sadness that I felt in my spirit.

The fear that it invoked in my heart.

ARE YOU READY

A question that I had to ask.

An answer that I needed to know.

NO

The answer that I was given.

The answer that I needed to hear.

THEN LET’S FIGHT

My response.

My battle cry.

My promise to him.

HOW

The question that he asked…

The snicker that I gave him made his eyes light up. He knew I was about to fight.

I had the doctors, residence, and nurse meet around his bed and explain to me everything that was wrong, what could go wrong, what could be done to counteract the problem, and when we were going to start working on it (the answer for that was STAT). I gave a frequency that I planned to check on him and I informed them. I stayed all day and called during the night. The nurses were expecting my calls. I visited at lunch. They were ready to answer my questions as soon as I arrived.

If he says fight, we fight. 💪🏾

And that’s on my word.
